Numerals & Letters
The numbers or letters on your front door are more than just practical - they’re part of your home’s identity. As one of the first things visitors (and delivery drivers) see, your choice of door numerals and letters can subtly enhance your home’s kerb appeal while ensuring your address is clearly visible.
Whether you're displaying your house number, apartment letter, or even your home’s name, here are some key things to consider:
Material:
Front door numerals and letters come in a range of materials including solid brass, stainless steel, cast iron, nickel, aluminium, and high-quality plastics. Choose a material that not only matches your door hardware but is also weather-resistant and durable enough to withstand the elements. We offer a wide range of materials and finishes in our collection.
Size:
Size matters for both visibility and balance. For most front doors, a height of 3 - 4 inches is ideal, ensuring that your numbers are legible from the street without overwhelming the space.
Font Style:
Choose a font that reflects the character of your home - whether that’s traditional, contemporary, or somewhere in between. Most importantly, it should be easy to read at a glance. Sans-serif fonts offer a clean, modern feel, while serif or script styles lean more classic or decorative.
Finish and Colour:
Contrast is key for visibility. Opt for a finish that stands out against your door’s colour - polished chrome or satin nickel on darker doors, or matt black and antique bronze on lighter backgrounds. Available finishes include brass, black, chrome, white, bronze, satin steel, and more, making it easy to coordinate with the rest of your door furniture.
Placement:
Door numerals and letters are typically placed centrally near the top panel, above or below a knocker, or on a transom if one is present. Wherever they go, ensure they're straight, evenly spaced, and aligned - a small detail that makes a big difference to the overall appearance. We stock screw-fix numbers with either visible or hidden fixings - although it’s tempting to use adhesive, we find it quickly loses adhesion, causing your numbers to fall off.
From classic serif numbers to sleek modern lettering, your front door signage should reflect your home’s personality while remaining practical and easy to read.
We supply high-quality numerals and letters from leading names in ironmongery including Karcher Design, From The Anvil, Carlisle Brass, Zoo Hardware, BLU, and Heritage Brass - all trusted for craftsmanship, durability, and style.
