The plain door spindle measures 120 x 5mm and connects the handles on each side of a door through the follower of the latch or lock. It is a solid 5mm square bar, the smaller square section used for thumbturns, turn and release sets and lighter furniture, and is used when fitting new furniture or replacing a spindle that is worn, bent or too short.
Choose the length to suit the door thickness and the depth of the handles, so the spindle passes fully through the lock and into both handles. Check that the furniture being fitted takes a 5mm spindle; most lever handles and mortice knobs use a larger spindle.
