Latches usually feature on both interior and exterior doors and keep doors closed yet unlocked. Without latches, doors would not be secured and would be susceptible to rattling or opening up at the slightest hint of draught. While keeping doors securely closed, latches, as opposed to locks, still ensure that doors can be opened from both sides without a key.
